Forbidden words

Forbidden words is a fun and challenging game that you can play at home! For this session, we chose yes and no as the words the students could not say. I would ask them questions like, "Do you like ice cream for dessert?" They would have to think of a way that they could answer this questions without saying one if the forbidden words. They came up with things like:
- I love ice cream!
- yummy!
- I prefer cake for dessert
- I would eat it all the time!

Or questions like do you like pepperoni pizza?
- I like cheese pizza the most.
- it's not my favorite
- delicious!

We also tried one with forbidden color words like red. I ask students to tell me everything they know about an object like a strawberry:
- I eat those for dessert
- they grow on little plants
- they have tiny seeds and green leaves
- I love them in a shortcake!

Try expanding on this at home and let us know how it goes!

Fifth grade buddies

On Friday, our fifth grade buddies came to our classroom for our first. dude session, and we could not have been more excited! Each fifth grader is paired with one or two Kindergarteners. They spent the first bit of time getting to know one another, and then fifth graders read books to the Kindergarteners. We are looking forward to our next session!

Welcome to our castle!

We have been dramatizing the life and times of castles as well as our new Magic tree house story. In 2 centers, children are working on dramatizing The Knight at Dawn, while the other 3 centers are acting out the life and times of the setting- the feast, the stable, and the castle. More photos to come!

Our Magic tree house!

We have created our own magic tree house right in our classroom! We searched for the perfect spot, and finally decided on the large pole in our classroom to be the tree. Each group of children made a different aspect of the treehouse-  tree trunk, leaves, branches, the ladder, and books for Jack and Annie to read. Finished product picture down below!

Graphics practice

We are now almost on to level 3 for graphics practice! We are making much more complicated shapes, such as grass blowing in the wind (slanted lines-very tricky!), candy canes, and today's zig zag shapes.
Each shape has a pretend scenario, so in today's, little red riding hood was trying to escape the wolf and zig zagged across the forest to hide from him. We say "across, slant, across slant" for each zig zag.
