Tony Vacca drumming session

We have been excitedly waiting all week for our session with renown drummer Tony Vacca and today was the day! He taught us about rhythms and beats and different instruments. Each of us got to play our own part on an instrument to become part of the KE Band! Even Miss Eldredge had a part! We are excited to watch the assembly tomorrow and possibly attend the concert at Hardy School tomorrow night!

100 days!

Today we worked on some 100 day math centers- 100s puzzles, build a structure with 100 large or 100 small cups, 100s number line squeeze.
Each partnership had a number line from 1-100. One child was the writer and the other was the guessed. The writer chose a number between a given set, such as 1-20 or 20-30 and wrote it on a secret ballot. The guessed had to ask questions, such as "Is it less than 15?" The writer would answer yes or no, and move a clothespin accordingly to help narrow down the guesser's numbers.

Welcome back!

I hope everyone had a great vacation. It's good to be back to our regular routine! Today we made a birthday poster for Ms. McClelland. Shhh- it's a surprise! Believe it or not, making this poster required remarkable memory and teamwork. Each child was given a letter to remember, make, and decorate. They had to stay in order, close enough to the person next to them, without invading their personal space. What a masterpiece we created!

Valentine's Day!

Here are some belated Valentine photos- we had a great time handing out Valentines to our classmates and then reading them. We made our own mailboxes and phased them out on Valentine's Day! I still have my valentine cards from my own Kindergarten year!

Kindergarten Archeology

For science lab today, we became archeologists in the ice age. Students had to use a variety of tools- a screwdriver, paperclips, toothbrushes, paintbrushes, salt, and eye droppers with warm water- to try to carefully remove some toys that had been frozen in blocks of ice. Ask your child how he or she or the toys out, and whether this was something easy or difficult. I think we may have a few future archeologists!

Riddles continued

Here is our riddle from today written by one of our own students! Where does a gerbil go on vacation? T New Hamster!

The Ice Age!

The Ice Age is one of my favorite themes - lots to learn about and think about! Yesterday we started learning background information about the ice age by reviewing our PowerPoint presentation about life during the ice age. What is the Ice Age? Were people alive during this time? Where did they get food, shelter, clothing? Where was the Ice Age? What would the environment have been like?
