Buddy reading

Once a week, each child practices reading his or her writing from the week to a partner. The partner must find one thing for that person to fix in their writing- it might be to fix an uppercase letter that doesn't belong, to check punctuation, to add a detail word, etc. this has really helped the editing process come to life!

Our writing has really been blossoming over the past few weeks! We have been working on editing, adding more details, and creating exciting messages. Here are some of our messages from midnight on the Moon and fact week!

Morgan was peanut and Jack and Annie found her. Morgan was peanut all along. 

1. Jack and Annie jumped over the meteorite and both fall down.

2. Annie found the m thing and the moon base. 

1. A bright light shined in from the window into jack's eyes. 

2. Jack's heart nearly stopped.

1. Jack and Annie found the fourth M thing and Morgan was standing in front of them.

2. We were the first kids to land on the moon and we leave it in peace. Jack and Annie.

1. Peanut disappears and Morgan stood before them. A light shined. 

2. Peanut hid behind the mango.

1. Peanut was running around the mango. 

2. A bright light shined in Jack and Annie's eyes and Morgan La fey appeared and it was good.

1. Peanut was Morgan all along. 

2. Annie pressed all of the buttons. 

1. Annie is backing up to jump over the meteor. 

2. Jack is scared because he thinks Annie is not good at driving. 

1. Annie presses a lot of buttons. Annie said the moon buggy.

1. Jack opened his visor so he could breathe.

2. Jack thought the map was the fourth M thing.

Galileo was one of the first astronomers to study the moon.

Oobleck science lab

For science lab, we read Bartholomew and the Oobleck by Dr. Seuss. 

In this story, the king is tired of regular weather falling from the sky, so he has his magicians create something new...oobleck! He gets into more trouble than he anticipated with this substance when. Wry thing becomes very sticky! We discussed solids, liquids, and gases and tried to decide if oobleck fits into one or more of these categories...what do you think?

 

New math games

Here are a few of our new math games:

Shake the dome and write the numerals in order. We will try higher numbers next week! 

Fish bones- one partner rolls a die and places that many bones on the fish. The other partner rolls the die and has to change the number of bones and explain how many he had to add or take away to make the new amount. 

Number shapes- students reach into the magic bag and pull out different color tiles to make number sentences to equal 5. Students take turns recording these on whiteboards. 

Build a floor- students take turns rolling a die and try to make rows of 5 to build a floor. 

Magic hat- students take turns playing the role of the magician and the audience. The magician chooses a number card, and students place that many bears on their board. The magician then hides a certain number of bears under his magic hat, and the audience has to figure out how many bears are hidden. Students then write a number sentence such as 7= 1+6. 

Roll a leprechaun- students roll a die and add parts to their leprechauns!
